Energy Efficiency in Steel Windows

Steel Doesn't Have to Mean Cold
One of the most persistent myths about steel windows is that they're inherently inefficient. While it's true that steel conducts heat more readily than vinyl or wood, modern thermally broken steel systems perform at a level that rivals — and often exceeds — premium fiberglass and aluminum-clad windows.
What Is a Thermal Break?
A thermal break is a layer of low-conductivity material — usually polyamide — that physically separates the interior and exterior steel components of the frame. This break prevents heat transfer, drastically reducing energy loss and condensation.
Performance Numbers That Matter
Modern thermally broken steel can achieve U-values as low as 0.30 with the right glazing package. For Charlotte's climate, that means real comfort year-round and meaningful energy savings.
Installation Is Everything
Here's the catch: a thermally broken window only performs well if installation is perfectly plumb, properly sealed, and correctly flashed. This is where most projects fail — and where Sightline's dedicated in-house installation team is your biggest advantage.
The window is only as good as the hole it sits in. We don't subcontract installation. Our crews own the result.
